Viral Loop: The Power of Pass-it-on

Viral Loop - Adam L. Penenberg I really liked this book! Mostly concentrates on web 2.0 type companies and other corporations that have influenced most of our lives in the recent past, like Google, eBay, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, etc....

Great stories of how these companies started and spread, some like wildfire, virally through the net. A current book, not about failed companies that never survived the dot com bust earlier this century. The usual strategy is for companies to get big and get bought out, bringing untold riches to those who started them. Otherwise, they have a difficult time making money and a lot of their valuations are based solely on their user base. People who spend the most amount of time online are the least likely to click on an ad. I see that every time I try to help out a beginner friend. Their computers will be full of spyware as they happily click away on the flashing banner ads, not realizing what they are doing! Traditional banner ads no longer work and the click through rate hovers around 1%, even lower on social networking sites. Some companies are offering up free stuff for everyone and allowing those who want premium services have to pay a small fee for that privilege.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in these "new" companies!
Great read!
